*I get many requests from aspiring grant writers considering starting their own firms and I am happy to talk with you in between my own proposal submissions. If I am slow in responding to your inquiry for advice or mentoring, please forgive me. My initial advice to anyone taking a stab at grant writing is this: Do what you love. If your passion is writing, write anything that you can convince folks to let you do. I wrote marketing copy for welding products, instructions for trucking products, and real estate company meeting minutes to get my feet wet. Keep trying and you'll get there. In my start-up years, one of my dearest successes was a grant for a set of 12 human rights videos that we won for our local library. That was when I realized it was the most satisfying feeling in the world to be able to help others do what they do best. Good luck... and keep me posted!
